Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of used products can I sell on Amazon?
You can sell used products in most categories, including consumer electronics, books, DVDs, CDs, video games and general merchandise. However, certain categories, such as beauty, food, healthcare and dietary supplements are not eligible for selling second hand.
Are there any additional fees for selling used products?
No. You only pay Amazon's standard referral fees (between 7% and 15%, depending on the product category). There are no additional programme fees for selling used products.
How do I determine the condition of my used products?
Amazon has four condition guidelines for used products:
- Like New: An item that works flawlessly. The packaging may be slightly damaged. The item is fully functional and all necessary accessories are complete.
- Very Good: An item in very good condition that has only been used a little and is fully functional. The item may have slight cosmetic imperfections. It may be shipped in damaged packaging or it may have been repackaged. Accessories that are not essential may be missing. Missing accessories are shown under the respective item description.
- Good: An item in good condition that shows slight signs of moderate use and is fully functional. The item may be shipped in damaged packaging or it may have been repackaged. It may have slight cosmetic imperfections, such as a small scratch. The item may be missing valuable accessories and may not be usable until these accessories are purchased separately. Missing accessories are shown under the respective item description.
- Acceptable: An item may show visible signs of use but it still fulfils its main function. The item may be shipped in damaged packaging or it may have been repackaged. The item may have cosmetic imperfections or other signs of use. Signs of use may include scratches, dents, and worn corners or edges. The item may be missing valuable accessories, components or replacement parts, and may not be usable until these parts are purchased separately. Missing parts are shown under the respective item description.
Each listing must accurately reflect the actual condition of the product.
How do I set the prices for my used products?
You have full control over the pricing of your used products. However, prices for used products should be competitive and lower than prices for new products, with pricing usually reflecting the condition ("Like New" fetches higher prices than "Acceptable").
Are there advertising opportunities for used products?
While traditional advertising campaigns for used products aren't currently available, you can still use Amazon's advertising tools, including percentage discounts and two-for-one offers.
How can I protect myself from returns and negative reviews?
The key is transparency in your listing. Provide detailed condition descriptions and clear photos that show any wear and tear or imperfections. This creates realistic customer expectations and reduces the likelihood of returns and negative reviews.
